Dogs love Sun Valley and Sun Valley loves dogs! The majority of local residents own dogs...they are almost a mountain-town necessity. Dog-friendly hiking trails in Sun Valley. Pretty much the entire area around around Ketchum is either National Forest or part of the 756,000 acre Sawtooth Recreation Area.

Rotary Park is located along the Big Wood River on Warm Springs Road. A large covered picnic shelter complete with standing BBQ pits and a public restroom make this an ideal place for dogs. Jazz in the Park, can be enjoyed every Sunday from 6-8pm through the month of July. Tot swings and a spring teeter totter entertain the kids and the park is home to Fin de Siecle a publicly-owned sculpture by Michael Zapponi.

Ketchum Town Square sits in the heart of Ketchum, surrounded by the Visitors Center and Giacobbi Square. The square has something for every member of the family.
This paved path follows the Big Wood River, running from Ketchum to Bellevue and also out to Sun Valley (about 30 miles total!), and is great for dog walking. Just make sure to keep an eye out for bikers zooming by!There are numerous spots just off the bike path with great swimming holes for people AND dogs!
This trailhead is accessed just north of Ketchum off the west side of Hwy 75 along Forest road #141. There are a network of inter-locking trails here, so you have your pick of either a shorter or longer route.
map - Directions: Drive north on Highway 75 to the Fox Creek access sign (5.8 mi). Follow the road to the trailhead loop parking and picnic area (.3 mi).
Dog Hike in Sun Valley, Idaho: The trailhead is accessed off the west side of Hwy 75 from Fox Creek access sign. The loop is a great ONE-WAY and only ONE-WAY, counter-clockwise mountain bike ride.
This is a lesser-used trail on the east side of town towards Sun Valley. The trailhead is accessed from the end of Fairway Road (park at the little pull-out and hike from there). ~4 mile loop up the mountain and back down the other side.

Hike a loop of spectacular high alpine lakes without driving over the pass! It’s a 22-mile drive to get there, half of which is on dirt roads (take Hwy 75 ~15 miles north of Ketchum onto Baker Creek Road (FR 162). Follow FR 162 for 5.9 miles to FR 170. Drive another 1.3 miles to the trailhead), then it's quick ~4-mile out-and-back to Norton Lake or do the whole ~7 mile loop around all 3 lakes.

In the summer, Galena Lodge is a great place to stop with your dog after a long hike in the mountains. They have a doggie deck out back with water bowls and picnic tables where you can all take a break.
